Vermont's Leading Advocacy Organization Since 1972
PIRG
is Vermont's leading watchdog and advocacy organization.
Supported by members since 1972, VPIRG's mission is to promote
and protect the health of Vermont's environment, people,
and locally-based economy. By informing and mobilizing individuals
and communities across the state, VPIRG brings the voice
of citizens to public policy debates that shape the future
of Vermont.
VPIRG's Board of Trustees prioritizes campaigns issues that
present opportunities to educate, organize and activate key
constituencies to move public policy and build awareness
of the links among the well-being of Vermont's people, environment,
and economy.
Our programs share the common objectives of building a broad
constituency to protect Vermont's air, water, and land by
bringing together environmentalists, the agriculture community,
consumers, businesses, and others who have an interest in
protecting the environment and maintaining Vermont's reputation
for purity.
An over-arching theme of VPIRG's work is that protecting
our environment, whether by eliminating pesticide use or
developing sound transportation policies, makes as much economic
sense as it does in terms of protecting public health.
